Father forgive them for they know not what they do.
I have read this many times, and each time I thought it was very generous of Jesus to forgive the people who crucified Him...and did it while He was dying. Wow!
Then, I read my devotional today. The suggestion was to read it like this...
Father forgive ___(put your name in here)___ for I Know not what I do!
So, I do things everyday I need to ask forgiveness for, big things, little things, things I don't even know about. And that is why Christ died on the cross. Better yet, He wasn't just asking for forgiveness for the Roman centurions or even the Jews who turned on Him at that point in time, He was asking for forgiveness for me, because I don't even know I am sinning many times. ..until the Holy Spirit brings it to my attention.
How amazing! How simple! Yet, how complex and well thought-out every word of Jesus Christ is, every prod from the Holy Spirit, every word in the Holy Scriptures breathed by God! How amazing!
