What is Easter really about? We all know right? But what is the first thing you think about when you hear the word Easter?
Do you think about going to church? Certain favorite and meaningful hymns/songs? Getting dressed up? Buying new outfits for the kids? Easter egg hunts? Choir practices? A special dinner with family and friends? Time to relax?
All of these thoughts go through my head. Then I am stopped by today's devotional about Christ not defending Himself, being mercilessly beaten, humiliated, enduring all of this so that we can have forgiveness for our sins. None of it was about enjoying Easter baskets, egg hunts, special dinners, new outfits, going to church as a family. None of these are bad in and of themselves, but where is my focus?
Jesus Christ was focused on me/us, because He didn't need to go to the cross for Himself. He needed to go to the cross for me.
This Easter, as I go to choir practice, plan meals, buy gifts (in my book Easter is just as important as Christmas), I pray, Father, that you will help me in every moment to remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made and to pass that on to others as you want us to do. If I could even partially accomplish that, it will not only be a great Easter because Jesus Christ is alive, but because others will know that also!
