Genesis 30:22-24
22 Then God mremembered Rachel, and God listened to her and nopened her womb. 23 She conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away omy reproach.” 24 And she called his name Joseph,10 saying, p“May the Lord add to me another son!”
God "remembered" Rachel? Does that mean He had forgotten her before that? Really? The God who knows everything and sees everything and loves all of us despite our weaknesses and frailties?
I am sure many of us feel that way when things are not going as planned. Where is God? Has He forgotten me? Does He not care?
Well, today someone looked up in German what "remember" means. It means to commemorate which means to appreciate or esteem. So, when God remembered Rachel, he didn't think "Oh yea, I forgot about poor little Rachel! I had better fix that right now!" No! I think He meant something more like He had been watching her...watching her make mistakes, watching her suffer from insecurity, watching her struggle to make things right all by herself without trusting God to do that. So, why did He intervene at the point that He did?
Timing is everything! And who has better timing than God! How many times have you tried to talk to someone about a sensitive topic only to have it end up very badly? How many times have you waited for the "right" time to talk to someone about a sensitive topic, and it turned out much better than you had expected? You see, we push to get things right; God waits for the right time, because He is God and knows the right time! He knows when we are ready to listen and understand.
So, finally, He lets Rachel know He has been watching and listening to her prayers, and she becomes pregnant. That was GOD's plan, not Rachel's! What I need to remember from this, is two things: 1) God is always watching and listening to my prayers and waiting for the right time (based on HIS plans). 2) God will not forget me! He has a plan, and I am a part of it!
